Kundalini Yoga

Practitioners of Kundalini Yoga call it the “Yoga of Awareness,” a sacred science that addresses the totality of being human. The practice is based on body, mind, and soul harmony. Kundalini Yoga is a combination of specific kriyas (actions and exercises) and meditation (including mantra and chanting), done with the intention of raising the potent and creative Kundalini energy, which rests dormant at the base of the spine. Awakening our Kundalini energy allows us to elevate our consciousness, using all our capacities and energy to raise our caliber and reach our highest potential. Results come about by breaking free of the grip of our ego, with emergence of love and compassion.

Body

The exercises in Kundalini practice work and elongate muscles and strengthen bones. Posture improves, body organs and systems are healthfully energized, and both body and brain get oxygenated, improving our blood circulation. The nervous system strengthens, with improved hormone secretion, ridding energetic blockages. Increase in muscular strength, flexibility, muscle tone, and balance build over time.

Mind

The techniques of Kundalini yoga affect the mind through breathwork (pranayama), mantra and meditation. Breathwork can activate the parasympathetic nervous system to calm and relax you. More dynamic breathwork coupled with specific movement strengthens the mental response to perceived stressors and challenging situations off the mat. With focus and concentration, the repetition and projection of Mantra prompts vibrations to a higher frequency to tap into your mind’s power and vastness, as the vibration of the ‘sound formula’ of mantra activates brain areas that may not normally be used or activated. Meditation can address neurosis, phobias, anxiety, and impulsive emotions, as we exercise concentration and focus to prime neural pathways for resilience and self-reliance. In addition, meditation can purify the mind, cleanse the subconscious, and break attachment to destructive mental habits. Consistent practice teaches and trains the mind to replace limiting patterns with new expansive thought patterns and neurogenesis.

Spirit/Soul/Connectedness

Kundalini Yoga practice works with our individual natures. The process of acceptance that is cultivated, and the clearing of self-doubt raise our vibrations, and we gain a deeper appreciation for life, for our connections, and for the present moment. When we become conscious of what we do and think, we get comfortably accepting of ourselves and become aware of our interconnected and infinite nature. Kundalini Yoga is about having a spiritual experience beyond religious dogmas. It is an adventurous discovery of profound and joyful self-knowledge, self-awareness, and accountability through this efficient technology. As the “yoga of awareness,” the philosophical purpose of Kundalini is to awaken your Higher Self.
